UN and ATMIS discuss Somalia

Mogadishu January 19, 2023 (SD) – Leaders of the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), led by the Head of Operations, Col. Milton Katarinyeba, held talks with the Deputy Secretary-General for Peace and Security of the United Nations, Gilles Michaud, who is visiting Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on the security situation in Somalia, the transition process, and the strengthening of the long-standing partnership between ATMIS and the United Nations in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The leaders also discussed the ongoing war between the Somali government and Al-Shabaab and how both sides can provide strong support to each other.

Both sides also agreed on the need to provide support to the Somali government in stabilizing areas that were recently liberated from Al-Shabab and providing essential services to the community.

The UN and ATMIS did not propose any implementable plans after their meeting.
