Garissa January 19, 2023 (SD) -At least 10 members of the Al-Shabaab militant group were killed and several others were injured in a clash with Kenyan security forces near the Kenyan-Somali border.
According to a statement from the police, the fighting took place in the Degbon area of the Garissa district. The Regional Police Commander of the North Eastern region, George Seda, stated that the security forces carried out a successful intelligence-led operation on the Al-Shabaab base in Degbon after tracking them for a week.
He also said that security forces recovered weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades, AK-47 rifles, and explosives in the operation. He added that the operation was still ongoing and they would not release further details.
This comes just a day after Al-Shabaab killed one person in an attack on Kenyan defense forces on the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road.
The police said that the attack occurred at 8:00 am on Tuesday, which is the second such incident in a week. According to police, the attack took place about 7 kilometers from the Bodhai police station in Garissa, as a fuel truck was hit by rocket-propelled grenades and one person on the truck died.
