UNFPA: situation in La Anod critical

Las Anod Feb 18, 2023 (SD) – A report issued by the UNFPA has discussed the situation in the conflict-affected city of Las Anod, stating that up until now, more than 170 people have been killed and over 500 people, including seven children and their mother, have been injured.

More than 50 schools have been closed, affecting the education of over 15,000 children, and an estimated 185,282 individuals have been displaced, according to the UNFPA report.

UNFPA has reported that the displaced people are currently living in the neighboring regions and towns of Las Anod, and require urgent medical assistance, which will cost approximately 1.5 million dollars.

Somaliland forces and local militias have been fighting over the control of Las Anod for over a month now.

The international community is urged to provide aid and support to the affected population.
