MOGADISHU (SD) – The US military command AFRICOM has carried out airstrikes against Al-Shabaab in Berhani area of Lower Jubba region.

The airstrikes are the first to target Al Shabaab in Somalia since February.

A statement from the Somali Federal Government’s Ministry of Information said the bombing killed five al-Shabaab members.

The Somali government said the US airstrikes came after al-Shabab fighters attacked a military base in Beer Hani area near Kismayo on Friday.

This is the first US airstrike in Somalia since President Joe Biden ordered more US troops should return to Somalia in May.
