Washington (SD) – The United States Government has appointed a new ambassador to Somalia to replace Don Yamamoto.
Larry Edward André Jr. will replace Donald Yamamoto as the US ambassador to Somalia, CNN reported quoting diplomatic sources close to the White House.
He previously served as US Ambassador to Djibouti from 2017-2021, and also to Mauritania from 2014 to 2017.
Larry André has been described by pundits as a diplomat who believes in democracy and human rights. As a result, he may put pressure on the Somali Federal government, as it has canceled the election and extended its term by two years.
The move comes days after the State Department threatened sanctions against government officials if they persisted on disrupting the country’s political discourse.
