US to Somali President and PM: ensure security institutions are headed by able and respected leaders

Washington (SD) – The United States has issued a statement calling for an immediate end to the standoff between President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble.

A statement from the State Department’s Office of African Affairs also called for the appointment of security leaders in the community.

“It is critical that @M_Farmaajo and @MohamedHRoble resolve their differences, ensure security institutions are headed by able and respected leaders, and focus fully on concluding #Somalia’s elections without further delay.” Tweeted The US Bureau of African Affairs.

The US statement comes a day after the international community issued a similar statement.

“International partners urge the President and Prime Minister to reach an agreement as soon as possible, to maintain focus on the implementation of the 17 September 2020 and 27 May 2021 electoral agreements and to ensure that key security institutions (MoIS and NISA) are headed by able and respected leaders, especially during the electoral period.” said the International Partners.

However, President Farmajo and PM Roble are insisting that individuals within the organization or members close and loyal to them lead the spy agency.
