US to support Somalia’s fight against COVID 1

Mogadishu (SD) – The United States government has pledged to continue its support to the Federal government of Somalia in its fight against COVID 19.

A meeting between Somalia’s Health Minister, Dr. Fowzia Abikar Nur and US Ambassador to Somalia, Donald Y. Yamamoto attended by senior officials from USAID Somalia program discussed on how the US can fully contribute to the COVID-19 response in Somalia.

This meeting comes after nine people succumbed to the disease in various emergency centers in the capital on Sunday evening putting the number of COVID 19 casualties to 32 people.

Last week, US agencies provided medical equipment including beds, face masks and other health materials to Somalia

On 8th Aug 2014, the governments of Somalia made the first agreement with the United States in which the US government provided $1.9 million to support Somali efforts to reform and develop the security sector
