MOGADISHU (SD) – The Federal Government of Somalia has late night announced the expulsion of Francisco Madeira, the African Union Special Representative (SRCC).
An statement from the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, announced the decision to expel him from Madeira.
The Somali government accused Ambassador Francisco Madeira of been involved in matters outside the purview of the AU mission in Somalia.
The Federal Government of Somalia has ordered Ambassador Francisco Madeira to leave the country within 48 hours.
On the other hand, a statement posted on Villa Somalia’s Facebook page contradicted the PM’s decision to expel the African Union Special Representative Ambassador Francisco Madeira for “engaging in acts that are incompatible with his status”.
“There is no permission from the President of the Republic to take action against the Ambassador of Madeira, there were no reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that he had acted in violation of the country’s sovereignty.” said the Villa Somalia post.
The decision to expel the ambassador comes at a time when Somalia’s leaders are bitterly divided over the conclusion of Parliamentary elections.
