Wadajir Chairman: Over Hundred People Died of COVID-19 in the Last Night

Mogadishu (SD) – The Chairman of the Wadajir opposition party, Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame said in a statement that almost 100 people died of the Coronavirus in Mogadishu in the last 24 hours.

The Chairman also said that the nine people who were declared dead by the government last night in Martini hospital, died because of lack of oxygen after the power supply got cut off.

“A source told me that around 100 people died in Mogadishu yesterday. Most people died of the virus (COVID-19). Nine of those people, some of whom I know, died at Martini Hospital, after the power was cut off, the oxygen supply machines stopped. There is no greater act of irresponsibility for the government not deliver a generator to the hospital, ”Abdirahman Abdishakur said in a statement.

Abdirahman Abdishakur urged the Somali people to rely on each other, as the situation escalates and there is no government to help the people, he said.

Abdirahman Abdishakur’s statement comes as the Somali Ministry of Health announced this afternoon that nine people had died in Martini hospital.

The Somali Government didn’t confirm the Wadajir Chairman’s claim of the death toll in Mogadishu and said the majority of people that died of the virus were at a privately owned Hospital in Mogadishu.
