Wadani Party: Arrests Journalist attackers

HARGEISA (SD) – The Somaliland’s biggest opposition party Wadani, have called on the government to bring to justice the alleged Somaliland Intelligence force operatives that recently tortured journalists in Hargeisa.

Wadani Party’s Home Affairs Secretary Mohamed Farah Abdi released a statement to the media in which he condemned the government’s crackdown on journalists, and mentioned that the government is yet to respond to previous complaints he and party officials filed.

“To these young Journalists who were attacked at night, in our case, we were attacked in broad daylight, our complaint letters are with the chief of police and so far we have no response, your case will not be any different” Wadani Party’s Home Affairs Secretary said.

He called on the Somaliland government to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible, adding that the people of Somaliland are aware of the situation.

The Home Affairs Secretary Mohamed Farah added “are these perpetrators above the law? Young men who post certain content on Facebook , young men who rob phones, and young men who are armed with knives are all arrested. This is a big question for the government. The people are not ignorant.”

Somaliland intelligence has been repeatedly accused of harassing journalists and politicians, however the intelligence service has not responded to any accusation or complaints.
