Hargeisa (SD) – Secretary of Social Affairs of the Opposition Wadani Party Mohamed Sadiq Dhamme, in a press conference today accused Somaliland government of mismanaging International scholarships offered to Somaliland students.
The secretary-general accused Somaliland health ministry officials of carrying out the work of the higher education commission, which is processing and evaluating Applicants qualifications.
“Article 28 of the National Education Act stipulates that the Higher Education Board shall be responsible for all higher education matters. As a party, we see the current system as chaotic, and the ministry of health and the director general have no right to process or receive CVs in his office,” said the secretary at the presser today.
Adding “The minister and his director do not have the right to say that we will collect CVs and diplomas, or manage the scholarships and send students to Ethiopia. If the Higher Education Commission is unable to carry out its mandate, we propose they vacate the office,”.
There are other countries such as Taiwan that have recently donated scholarships to Somaliland and have also been mismanaged by authorities.
In the Past, the Wadani Secretary made numerous allegations of scholarship fraud against the ministry of education and the University of Hargeisa.
Donor countries are called upon to help better evaluate students for their scholarships.
