Wajid (SD) – A joint operation by the Somali National Army and the South West Darwiish forces in Wajid district of Bakol region, resulted in Al-Shabaab casualties, according to regional officials.
Wajid District Commissioner Mohamed Moalim Yusuf who spoke to local media said that there is an increase in the number of Al-Shabaab killed in the operation today, as many as 13 militants were killed in the fighting, and there were other casualties among the militant group.
“Villages under Wajid district where terrorists have been harassing civilians in recent days have been successfully removed, thirteen al-Shabaab militants were killed, with some of their wounded being picked up by the army from the streets” said the Wajid District Commissioner.
Mohamed Moalim Yusuf said the operation came amid growing complaints from residents, some of whom have fled their villages, adding that they will continue operations against Al-Shabaab.
Al Shabaab has not yet commented on the Government and local forces latest attack on villages under Wajid district of Bakol.
The Somali National Army (SNA) has been conducting operations in some parts of the country in recent days and were able to eradicate Al-Shabaab insurgents from some regions in South of the country.
