We remain resilience despite al-shabaab attack – Afrik Hotel authorities

MOGADISHU (SD) – Management of Al-Shabaab attacked hotel in Mogadishu has expressed their commitment to rise from the ashes barely five days after militants stormed Afrik Hotel.

In a statement, Afrik Hotel authorities condemned the attack which claimed lives of over 15 people including a well known army general.

“We condemn the unproved bombing of innocent people that led to loss of lives and property,” the statement reads in part.

The hotel authorities commended Somali government forces for their quick response to break the siege in the hotel.

“We appreciate our security forces backed by the national forces who responded and did their best to subdue the attackers efforts to preserve lives and property,” the hotel authorities said.

Last Sunday, al-Shabaab militant group had attacked Afrik Hotel with a car laden with explosives before armed men forced their way into the hotel, taking hostage dozens of people.

After about eight hours of siege, Somali government forces had managed eliminate militants in the hotel.

According to the police, five militants who attacked the hotel were neutralised during the operation to break siege.
