WHO condemns the attack on a health care facility in Las Anod

Hargeisa July 15, 2023 (SD) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has condemned the recent attacks on the Las Anod Hospital by Somaliland forces.

The Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed his concern on Twitter about the assaults and stated that both civilians and healthcare workers lost their lives in the attack.

The World Health Organization, on Thursday, reported that the Las Anod Hospital suffered significant damage, hindering essential healthcare services in the city located in the Sool region.

In a released statement, Somaliland has strongly criticized a report issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the bombing of the healthcare facilities in Las Anod, a conflict-affected area.

Furthermore, the statement emphasized that Somaliland strives to ensure the well-being of its citizens amidst the conflict and called for the WHO to collaborate with the Somaliland government.

The SSC traditional leaders in Las Anod have accused the Somaliland military of carrying out indiscriminate shelling targeting the Las Anod Hospital, while Somaliland has denied these allegations and claimed that they have been assisting the affected population.

The conflict in Las Anod has severely affected the social services in that city, including healthcare, water, and sanitation in the city.
