(SD) – The new members of the Somaliland House of Representatives have today elected a new Speaker, following an election held at the House of Representatives headquarters in the capital Hargeisa.
Lawmaker Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed was elected the new Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, winning with 42 votes, while his rival received 39 votes.
Who is the New Chairman, Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed?
Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed was born in Las Anod in 1967, received his primary education in the same city, and completed his higher education in Mogadishu Somalia.
He said he never worked in his field of study, during the two decades from 1991 to 2010 he was a businessman.
In President Silanyo’s first Kulmiye government, he became Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism in 2010.
In July 2013, he became Somaliland’s Minister of Public Works and Housing.
In 2015, he was one of a number of ministers who resigned from President Silanyo’s government and later joined the opposition Wadani party.
In 2016, he became the Finance Secretary of the Wadani Party.
In March 2018, he became the First Vice Chairman of the opposition party Wadani.
He became one of the new members of the House of Representatives from the Sool region this year, and is currently the newly elected Speaker of the House.
