Mogadishu (SD) – The Women’s Quota Implementation Committee appointed by the Prime Minister of Somalia has informed the Federal Electoral Commission the set number of women candidates needed to run in regional administrations elections.
The statement sent to the Federal Election Commission instructed them to work in achieving the 30% allocated for women MP’s in the next Somali Federal Parliament.
The Women’s Quota Implementation Committee called on communities and sub-clans to reach an agreement on the nominations, and also directed the Electoral Commission to advance women’s seats first, so that their seats are not denied.
The 30% will provide a total of 82 women members in Somalia next Federal Parliament.
