World Bank, IMF, and Somalia discuss debt relief

January 19, 2023 (SD) – The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Cilmi Mohamuud Nuur, today concluded a week-long conference in Nairobi that brought together representatives from Somali government agencies and the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

The conference focused on the implementation of debt relief requirements, with a particular emphasis on financial reform and compliance with regulations.

The attendees also discussed ways to jointly achieve the goal of reaching a “completion point” for Somalia’s debt relief by the end of 2023.

Details of the said plans were not presented. The conference was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the National Planning Ministry, the Ministry of Treasury, the Central Bank, the Office of the President, and the Office of the Prime Minister.
