MOGADISHU (SD) – A suicide bomber blew himself up today at the Damanyo camp in Mogadishu city during the registration of youth joining the Somali National Army forces. Initial reports indicate the explosion caused deaths and numerous injuries, with no official casualty numbers yet available.
Witnesses reported that two tuk-tuks (auto rickshaws) transported the injured, who were quickly taken to medical facilities. The explosion was specifically targeted at the location where recruits were being registered, indicating the attack was carefully planned.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the blast site and are conducting intensive investigations to determine who was behind the attack. There are also fears that additional explosions may occur, leading to significantly tightened security measures.
The Federal Government of Somalia has not yet commented on this attack, and no group has claimed responsibility so far. This incident recalls a similar attack that occurred at the Damanyo camp in 2023, when many youth joining the military forces were targeted.
