Somali Pirates to stand trail in Mumbai

MUMBAI (SD) -Somali pirates detained aboard the MV Ruen ship have now been handed over to the Mumbai Police, who are said to be preparing to take them to court.

The Somali nationals are accused of piracy, hijacking, and allegedly mistreating Indian personnel whom they reportedly captured, as well as allegedly damaging Indian navy aircraft that arrived to assist.

The group, consisting of 35 men, who were reportedly detained a while ago, is expected to face trial soon, and arrangements are being made through the Somali Embassy in India.

The Indian Navy used military force to capture the Somali pirates who tried to defend themselves, leading to freeing the ship and the crew they seized in December.
