Galkayo (SD) – Reports from Galkayo, Mudug region indicate that a huge explosion was heard and billowing smoke could be seen today in the northern part of the city.

The explosion was reported to have occurred in the area of Mudug’s Puntland region administration in Galkayo, there are casualties and injuries as a result of the blast.

The explosion killed Governor Ahmed Muse Nur-Yare at the regional headquarters near the presidential palace.

Police Commissioner Mumin Abdi, told local media that the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber who detonated himself in front of the regional headquarters.

A number of Puntland forces have arrived at the scene of the explosion, the forces are helping with the evacuation and the investigation of the blast.

No Group has so far claimed this latest deadly explosion in Galkayo, Puntland forces have recently foiled attacks from extremist group in the regional state.
