An Investigative journalist arrested in Hargeisa for exposing corruption

Hargeisa (SD) – The owner of Somalilandchronicle.com Said Ibrahim, an Investigative Journalist, was detained at Hargeisa CID headquarters in Somaliland today, according to sources close to the journalist.

His family confirming his arrest, told the source that the arrest was behind by a woman’s organization in Somaliland called NOW.

Said recently wrote about the organization corrupting food aid donated to poor families in Somaliland by WFP.

The expose was titled Petty Theft: How One Somaliland Women Organization Officials are Embezzling Aid Intended for the Internally Displaced in Hargeisa

Said recently confirmed to colleagues that he was pressured to remove the information from the website, but he refused and asked them to respond.

His family confirmed that he is still held at the CID headquarters in Hargeisa and that they were allowed to visit him.

The organization allegedly behind the journalist arrest and the Somaliland CID officials are yet to address the holding of Said Ibrahim.
