Djibouti (SD) – Djiboutian demonstrators were seen on the streets of that country today demanding the release of a senior military official arrested recently in that country.
A video of the arrested soldier, Fu’ad Yousuf Ali detailing his arrest and condition serviced on social media and went viral, prompting large demonstration both yesterday and this morning.
Prisoner Fu’ad said he was initially sent to prison, after he complained of mistreatment by commanding officers, and is now in a solitary arrest in a toilet where he is tortured and abused.
Also, the prisoner’s wife Samira Jama Abdi was seen on video appealing to the people of Djibouti to stand by her and her husband, who is suffered both oppression and injustice.
The Djibouti government has not yet commented on the incident, which was trending on social media for days now, although it is reported that it is using military force this morning to quell demonstrations.
Its not the first time that the Djibouti’s long-time President Ismail Omar Guelleh has been accused of human rights violations, which often entails imprisonment and torturing his preserved political opponents.
Mr. Guelleh, first took the presidency in Djibouti in 1999, was re-elected three times in 2005, 2011 and 2016, and all of these elections were deemed fraudulent by both opposition and the international community.
