EU: Projects should be made available to the needy in Somaliland

The EU Special Envoy to Somalia Nicolas Berlanga touring Togdher region of Somaliland, said that they expect that Somaliland Government to equally distribute EU funded projects to all regions.

“Projects should be made available to the needy in all regions, villages and rural areas and not just in the capital and surrounding areas.” said ambassador Berlanga, while speaking to local media today.

Mr. Berlanga held information gathering in Burao and Beer districts today, and was said to have repeated his massage of equal distribution of projects.

Somaliland Government is notorious for not spreading aid and other developmental projects to the most needed, often in regions beyond the capital Hargeisa.

Sources who were present at the ambassador’s consultation meetings said Berlanga was taken back by widespread injustice and mismanagement of developmental projects by the Somaliland government.

Mr. Berlanga, in this latest trip, didn’t meet with President Bihi, and instead met with Vice-president Seylici, its not clear if that is an indication of a rift.
