Kismayo July 24,2019(SD)-The Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation of the government of Somalia said that the list of traditional elders issued by the Election and Boundaries Commission does not match the Ministry’s official record of elders in Jubaland.

The government of Somalia warned of the danger it would face if the selection of MPs in the Jubaland parliament would begin without the correct listing of traditional elders by the Jubaland Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Jubaland state responded to a statement from the Ministry of Interior of the Federal Government of Somalia saying the list of Jubaland elders submitted by the Jubaland Electoral and Boundaries Commission is incorrect. 

The statement from the Ministry of Interior of the Federal Government of Somalia is unfortunate and unconstitutional and violates both the Provisional Federal Constitution and the Jubaland Constitution.
