Garowe reports first Coronavirus related death in Somalia

Garowe (SD) – Coronavirus claims its first victim in Garowe, Puntland state, the man was in quarantine at time of his death.

The deputy director of Garowe General Hospital, Dr Mohamud Abdirashid, posted on his Facebook page that the deceased patient had come from Ethiopia and had symptoms of COVID-19.

It is not yet known whether the victim died of the disease or had other underlining medical conditions. The committee responsible for controlling the disease is expected to address this issue.

Meanwhile, Puntland’s Deputy Health Minister, Abdinasir Yusuf Haji, said people in the quarantine center have displayed some of the symptoms, and said within two or three days they would have their test results.

The death is the first in regional state and the country, increasing the fear of Covid-19 spreading to the country.
