Djibouti (SD) – The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia Dr. Abdirahman Duale Beyle met with Russia’s Ambassador to Somalia Mikhail Golovanov in Djibouti, to discuss Somalia’s debt crisis.
“Russia’s Ambassador to Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov, and I, met today and discussed the issue of debt consolidation in Somalia,” Beyle said.
The Somali debt consolidation plan is at a promising stage and the Government of Somalia is gone through all the necessary steps to ease the debt burden in Somalia.
“Russia is the 2nd largest country that is working with us on debt rescheduling with us, and our discussions were based on that topic, to forgive the debt,” said Ministry of Finance Dr. Beyle.
Minster Beyle didn’t mention if the officials discussed a recent article that claimed Russia was eyeing Berbera Port to once again become a military base.
Berbera is in Somaliland, which declared its independence from Somalia in 1991 after a bitter civil war.
