Somali government to send additional troops to parts of Gedo region

Baled Hawo (SD) –  More troops from the Somali government are expected to reach parts of Gedo region today.

The government troops have been sent to the region to gain control of the local region, currently controlled by forces loyal to the former Jubbaland Minister of Security Abdirashid Janan, who recently escaped from prison in Mogadishu.

Military officials say the government of Somalia is responsible for ensuring security in the Gedo territories, which fall under the Jubbaland administration led by Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe).

The federal government is working to take over the entire region of Gedo and dismantle the Jubbaland administration, and there have been allegations that the Somali government is interfering with security in the Jubbaland areas.

The move comes after the government of Somalia recently issued an international arrest warrant for the Jubbaland Security Minister Abdirashid Janan.
