MPs from Somaliland resign from Somalia’s opposition parties

Mogadishu (SD) – Two high profile MPs in the UPD and HIMILO QARAN parties in Somalia have announced their resignation today.

Lawmaker Abdifatah Dahir Ismail said in his resignation letter that he had stepped down as deputy UPD chairman and left the party.

“I want to assure the public that my position on the current government remains the same. We will continue to hold the poor current leadership of the country accountable; we will seek peaceful and prosperous Somalia with good leadership, “said the lawmaker.

In a similar letter, Hussein Arab Isse resigned from the HIMILO QARAN Executive Committee and left the party.

These two party’s are led by Sheikh Sharif and Hassan Sheikh, two of Somalia previous Presidents who fiercely oppose the current Somalia government.

Both MPs hail from the Somaliland and have not given any official reasons as to why they resigned.

The two MPs are rumored though to be disappointed with the way the opposition parties are dealing with the current situation of the country.

In the following days, more Somalia MP’s wo hail from Somaliland are expected to resign from the opposition parties.
