President Bihi Squashes Unity talks with Somalia

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi with Speakers of the Parliament and the two opposition party leaders responded to the country’s Traditional leaders who demanded they be included in the talks between Somaliland and Somalia.

Three major Traditional leaders in Somaliland took it to the media last week and promoted an expedited unity talks between Somalia and Somaliland, adding they be at the table.

At today’s joint press conference, Muse Bihi called on Somaliland’s traditional leaders to stay away from politics and if they don’t, they should be prepared to face the consequences.

The President continued to say that Somaliland’s Independence is constitutionally binding and no dialogue with Somalia could reverse it.

The president also reiterated that only through a referendum can the countries independence be retracted, no traditional leader or a politician can unilaterally do it.

President Bihi dismissed reports indicating that he is aware of or participating in an IGAD or the Ethiopian PM plans to have Somalia and Somaliland reignite their talks with Somalia’s PM, instead of President Farmajo.

 Somaliland President showed willingness to talk to Somalia, about ways the two countries resolve their issues, as he put it.

The Somaliland leaders addressed this issue due to an escalated conversations about Somalia and Somaliland in the media last week.
