Presidents Uhuru and Farmajo take the Maritimes dispute to the World stage

NY(SD)-Both Presidents of Somalia and Kenya in their remarks at the 74th United Nations meeting addressed issues pertaining to the Maritimes raw between the two neighboring countries.

But the Somali president said at the United Nations that “Somalia, a member of the United Nations, and one of the signatories of this court, is committed to seeing this court solution come to an end, Somalia has pledged to abide by the court’s final decision and accept the limits set by the Court. He is also handling the court’s decision in Kenya.

The Somalia President also commented on a recent meeting between him and Uhuru Kenyatta “President Uhuru of Kenya & I have on Tuesday night 24/9/2019 agreed to restore our good brotherly relationship, strengthening the diplomatic & political cooperation. We further agreed to leave the maritime dispute between the 2 countries to be resolved by the ICJ”

However, the Kenyan President is insisting the matter be settled through dialog.

President Kenyatta who also spoke told the UN that Kenya calls for the maritime dispute with Somalia to be resolved through ‘negotiation & remain hopeful that Somalia will remain committed to the resolution of this dispute’,

It is not yet clear which efforts will prevail at the end, both Somalia and Kenya seems resolute in their options to resolve the dispute.
