Almadow (SD) – More details are coming out of yesterday’s attack in Ulheed in the Almadow Mountains, especially in the Macagta area of Sanaag region.

Local sources say armed local militiamen attacked Puntland officials in the area around Ulheed yesterday, accusing them of escorting white men who were mining in the mountains illegaly.

The gunmen fired heavy weaponry at the authorities, although no casualties were reported as a result of the attack, and the concerned officers fled the scene,  the attackers later burned a vehicle left behind by the authorities.

Puntland security officials, who declined to be named, blamed the attack on al-Shabaab, but residents denied that al-Shabaab was behind the attack.
