DHUSAMAREEB (SD) – Somali military has displayed an al-Shabaab operative captured in security operation in central Somalia following several rounds of mortars attacks in Dhusamareeb town.
Mohamed Osman Ali, SNA force commander in Dhusamareeb said Somali security forces have conducted an operation outside Dhusamareb town.
During the operation, three militants were killed and one was captured.
The forces also displayed the bodies of the militants including the group’s leader in the areas between Elbur and Dhusamareb who was only identified as Abdinassir
“We have launch operation to hunt down those who attacked the town with motor shells, the two who were killed and the captured are suspected to be behind the firing of mortars into the town last night,” he said.
According to sources in Dhusamareeb town, several people including a police officer were wounded in the motor shell attack.
The commander also stated that they have recovered weapons from al-Shabaab fighters following brief clashes outside Dhusamareeb town.
Meanwhile, Dhusamareeb district Commissioner, Ma’alin Abdiraxmaan Gedaqorow said the security of the town will tighten during the three days of the consultative forum hosted by Galmudug state.
Somali leaders are gathering in Dhusamareb for a new round of talks to end political stalemate over elections.
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and the leaders of Galmudug, Southwest, Hirshabelle, Puntland Jubbaland states as well as the governor of Benadir region will attend the conference to find solution to dispute over electoral committees and the situation of Gedo.
