Somali Aviation Minister: we allowed Air Ethiopia flights to Hargeisa

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Omaar, said that the Air Ethiopia flights to Hargeisa have an approval from the Somali federal government.

The Minister was addressing the continued Ethiopian Airline flights to Hargeisa and was also pushing back on Somaliland’s claims of independence.

“As you know, the country has laws, and these laws apply nationwide, we approved the Ethiopian Airline flights landing in Hargeisa and elsewhere.” Said minister Omaar speaking to Radio Mogadishu.

There is no proof that Ethiopian Airline flights arriving in Somalia, except for Hargeisa, Somaliland, ever since the Federal ban was announced.

The Air Ethiopia flights to Hargeisa are undermining the Federal government’s travel ban and are considered a health risk, as the Covid-19 could be imported to the country.

UCID opposition leader Eng. Faisal Ali Warabe called for banning the Air Ethiopia flights or quarantining all the passengers.

Somaliland did not respond to the Somali Aviation minister claims regarding his approval, Somaliland declared independence from the Somali Republic in 1991.
