Somalia’s PM names a flood disaster committee

Mogadishu(SD)-The Prime Minister of Somalia Ali Hassan appointed an emergency flood rescue committee to address the impact of the floods.

The Minister of Assistance and Disaster Management, Hamsa Said Hamsa, chairs the committee which includes ministers of health, internal security, electricity and water, agriculture, education, planning, information and the deputy minister of internal affairs.

Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre appealed to all Somalis and aid agencies to take part in the flood relief efforts in flooded regions, and called on all government agencies to intervene.

Ali Hassan stated that the government’s plan to deal with flood mitigation and drought prevention, both problems for the people and the country.

he Somali Government was heavily criticized for not responding to the massive floods in Hiran and other drought effected regions of the country.

The announcement of a committee would not change the alleviate the suffering or the criticism.
