US Ambassador meets with leader of Somalia’s opposition coalition

Mogadishu (SD) – US ambassador to Somalia Amb Yamamoto met with the leader of the Somali opposition coalition, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

The two sides discussed how the Somali government and opposition parties could work together for the good of Somalia.

Yamamoto said the US government will continue to support the promotion of cooperation among all stakeholders, in order to hold timely, free, and fair elections.

The US ambassador has previously met with other politicians in his bid to support the upcoming election, as well as meeting with federal government officials.

He conveyed to all the parties he met with, his government’s message that the United States would provide greater support for the election in Somalia, but it would allow Somali political leaders to first agree on the current electoral process.
