Mogadishu (SD) – A blast targeted a convoy escorting Somalia’s Military commander General Odawa Yusuf Rage in Mogadishu today, but the commander was not hurt in the attack.

The powerful car explosion, occurred at the intersection of Tarabunka and the military Hospital in Hodan district of Mogadishu.

Reports indicate that the commander’s escort disabled the car bomb before he could get close to the commander’s vehicle.

Somali security officials confirmed that the explosion killed the driver of the car loaded with explosives and a civilian woman who was crossing the intersection.

The commander of the armed forces who spoke to the media after the explosion confirmed that he was targeted and the assailants intended to assassinate him but that his security detail foiled the attack.
