Abdi Hashi: Illegally revised election Law is presented to parliament

Mogadishu (SD) – The Chairman of the Somali upper house of parliament, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi challenged the four item election law currently debate at the House of the People, saying the items were politically manipulated.

A statement from Abdi Hashi’s office said a fraudulent copies of the rules were distributed to parliamentarians.

“The documents submitted to the Two Chairs of parliament regarding the four items drafted by the Joint Commission is different than the draft distributed to MPs on 17 June 2020 and is currently been debated” said the speaker.

The Somali upper house speaker accused the lower house chairs illegally changing the election laws and warned the electoral committee not to use theses laws currently debated in parliament.

The Chair of the lower house did not yet comment on the revelation and this will likely cause further disruption to the country’s volatile electoral dispute.
