GALKAYO (SD) – The Wadajir Party leader and long-term opposition leader, Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, was elected as a member of the parliament in the ongoing Lower House elections in Galmudug.
Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, won the HOP # 138 by a show of hands with 86 votes, after his opponent, Naima Hussein Ali, has forfeited.
Abdirahman Warsame said in a tweet, “I would like to thank the community for the HOP # 138 seat, and the people of Dhusamareb for the responsibility they have entrusted me with. This is the beginning of success.”
Also elected is the head of political affairs at the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Kulane Jiis. The senior intelligence official was reportedly linked to the kidnaping and death of former employee of NISA, Ikran Tahlil.
Somalia’s military court, however, cleared NISA of any involvement in the death of the agent, and Al-Shabaab denied allegations of being behind it.
NISA acting director Yasin Farey have also been elected for HOP #86 MP in Galmudug.
