Djibouti December 24, 2022 (SD) The U.S. AFRICOM command confirmed today that they carried out an attack against Al Shabaab on Friday in the Cadale district, about 248 km away from Mogadishu.

At the request of the Federal Government of Somalia, AFRICOM said 6 members of Al-Shabaab were killed in the airstrike, but no civilian casualties were reported.

“At the request of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted a self-defense strike, Dec. 23, in support of Somali National Army engagements against al-Shabaab 248 km northeast of Mogadishu near Cadale, Somalia,” AFRICOM said in a statement.

The US has increased airstrikes in support of government and local forces fighting Al-Shabaab.
