Djibouti January 07, 2023 (SD) – The US government has disclosed the number of airstrikes it carried out in Somalia last year. A statement issued by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said that Somalia saw 15 airstrikes targeting the Al-Shabaab group in the past year.
AFRICOM said the airstrikes were conducted in support of the Somali military and claimed to have killed 100 Al-Shabaab fighters.
The AFRICOM statement did not mention any civilian casualties from the airstrikes in Somalia last year. AFRICOM has previously been accused of causing civilian deaths in its airstrikes in Somalia.
The United States has carried out air strikes in Somalia, some of which have killed high-ranking leaders of Al-Shabaab.
