Ahmed Madobe sets conditions on appointing Jubaland electoral commissions

Kismayo (SD) – President of Jubaland Administration Ahmed Mohamed Islam Ahmed Madobe, has refused to nominate the four members of the Jubaland Administration, the electoral commissions and the disputed election commission in Somalia.

Ahmed Madobe has reportedly told Villa Somalia that Jubaland will not take part in the Somali elections until the withdrawal of Somali government troops from Gedo, according to officials in his office.

Furthermore, the Jubaland administration doesn’t want elections in Somalia to be held until the federal government withdraws its troops from Gedo, where they have been stationed for the past few months.

There are reports that Jubaland submitted the committee members but they were rejected after it ignored the previously agreed upon quota for women.
