GARISA (SD)-Armed militants from Al-Shabaab ambushed a convoy of Kenyan police forces on the outskirts of Garissa in the North Eastern Province today. Following the ambush, a battle ensued between the Kenyan forces and the Al-Shabaab fighters in the Ijara area near Garissa. Reports indicate that the clash lasted for several minutes and resulted in casualties.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they had burned one of the Kenyan military vehicles and killed several soldiers. Kenyan government officials, however, announced that their forces successfully repelled the attack and inflicted casualties on the Al-Shabaab fighters.
Al-Shabaab has frequently launched similar attacks against Kenyan police and military personnel operating in various parts of the North Eastern Province. These assaults have resulted in significant casualties and destruction.
