KISMAYO (SD) – Details are coming out of a heavy fighting in Lower Jubba region between the Kenyan army and Al-Shabaab fighters.

The fighting reportedly began after al-Shabaab militants attacked the Kenyan army base in the Qoqani district.

Residents told local media, heavy gunfire could be heard, witnesses couldn’t confirm casualties.

Residents told reporters that there was fear of more fighting erupting in the region.

Kenyan troops launched a military operations in Qoqani area in Lower Juba in search of attackers.

The Kenyan army and Al Shabaab did not comment on the clashes in Qoqani
