Al-Shabaab denies killing of senior Al-Shabaab official

Jamame (SD) – Al-Shabaab has issued a statement on the bombing that killed a man who they claim to be the sultan of the Habar Gidir clan in the Jubba regions, which was carried out by US drones a few days ago.

A drone strike on the outskirts of Jamame district in Middle Jubba region has killed Sultan Mohamed Abbas Ahmed Dirshe, who Al-Shabaab claimed was the sultan of the Habar Gidir clan in Jubba regions.

Al-Shabaab spokesman Abdiaziz Abu Mus’ab has denied reports from the US military command AFRICOM that the man killed in the bombing was an al-Shabaab official.

“It is a baseless lie from the United States that the sultan of the Habar Gidir clan who was killed on the outskirts of Jamame was an al-Shabaab official,” the spokesman said.

Al-Shabaab is known to have created chiefs and loyal traditional elders living under their control, some of whom are reportedly members or collaborators of the group.

The U.S. military command AFRICOM recently confirmed in Killing an unnamed Al Shabab official in Jamame region.
