Mogadishu (SD) – Al-Shabaab’s media arm Al-Kata’ib last night released a video calling on young Muslims around the world to join the jihad in Somalia.
The video, which is available in Somali, Arabic, English and Swahili, features al-Shabaab’s deputy emir Mahad Karate and al-Shabaab’s leader in Kenya, Ahmed Iman.
Although the timing and location of the recording are unknown, foreign fighters training could also be seen.
The video aims to attract foreign fighters, after it emerged that relations between al-Shabaab and the fighters have been strained for some time, with some joining ISIS, some being killed, or arrested, while others are dissatisfied.
Most of the foreigners fighting alongside al-Shabaab at the moment are Kenyan immigrants, and this video is also a campaign to invite other jihadist youths around the world.
During the video, killed foreign fighters appear to be calling on foreign youths to come to Somalia.
Al-Shabaab is flanked by young people from Europe, Asia and Africa.
Al Shabaab’s statement comes amid Eid celebrations.
The Somali government and clerics have so far not commented on Al-Shabaab’s call for international jihadists.
