Mogadishu March 12, 2023 (SD) – Al-Shabaab has released a new video identifying the foreign national who allegedly took part in the attack on the Bariire military base on April 3, 2021.

The attack, which involved explosives and a suicide bomber, caused casualties and injuries to the troops of the Gorgor Special Forces stationed at the targeted base.

The identified individual drove a vehicle used in the attack. Ramadan Mwani, also known as Abdulhaq Al-Muhajir, is believed to be from Kenya and is said to have been a member of Al-Shabaab for some time.

Al-Shabaab claims that Mwani was also involved in the attack on the US military base at Manda Bay on January 5, 2020.

Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack, which they said was in retaliation for the killing of Kassem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard killed in Baghdad.

Several US soldiers and contractors were among those killed in the attack on the Bariire base, which saw the destruction of drones and other equipment reportedly worth millions of dollars and operated by US military personnel stationed there.
