Galkayo (SD) – The trial of nine men accused of being members of Al-Shabaab has begun in Galkayo, the regional capital of Mudug region.

Puntland Armed Forces Court, particularly in Mudug and Cayn regions charged nine people in connection with insecurity acts and being members of the Al-Shabaab militia.

The nine men were arraigned in court on charges of involvement in killings, bombings, planned attacks, threats and other acts that took place in the outskirts of Galkayo, the capital of Mudug region.

The charges against the men were filed by the prosecution, and their lawyers were given the opportunity to defend the nine defendants.

Officials from the Armed Forces Court of Mudug and Cayn regions, some relatives of the accused and others are present at the trial, and listening to the trial.

Recently, the Armed Forces Court of Mudug and Cayn regions sentenced eight people to death for murder of prominent people in Galkayo, the capital of Mudug region, since 2008.
