Mogadishu (SD) – A huge car bomb explosion is heard in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, around 8:00 pm last night.
The blast took place near a petrol station near Ex-hotel Jubba in Boondheere district, in Mogadishu.
The blast targeted a vehicle carrying the directors of the national television and Radio Mogadishu Sharmarke Mohamed Warsame and Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled Afrika, along with the driver.
Director of Radio Mogadishu Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled (Africa), died of serious injuries from last night’s bombing in Mogadishu.
Sharmarke and the driver of the car were injured and taken to hospital, according to eyewitnesses.
“The blast, according to police investigators, was carried out by a suicide bomber who struck the car of the directors of Radio Mogadishu and SNTV at a restaurant in Bondhere on Busley Road,” the ministry said in a statement.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the bombing that killed Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled Afrika, the director of Radio Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab spokesman Abdiaziz Abu Musab confirmed they were behind attack.
“The Mujahidin carried out an attack in Mogadishu this evening. The attack was a deliberate act targeting officials including Abdiaziz Afrika,” the spokesman said in a statement.
Abu Musab added that they have been tracking Abdiaziz Afrika for a long time.
