Berbera airport renovated and reopened today

Berbera (SD) – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi, has inaugurated the Berbera International Airport, which has been undergoing extensive renovations.

The grand opening ceremony of Berbera International Airport, held inside the airport, and was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, senior officials from the United Arab Emirates, which is a major investor in the airport , parliamentarians, cabinet members, heads of the Somaliland Civil Aviation Authority, ambassadors, diplomats, a delegation from Ethiopian Airlines and many other dignitaries.

The attendees all made speeches highlighting the value of the new Berbera airport, its importance to the Republic of Somaliland and the Horn of Africa in general.

Speakers on behalf of the UAE government including the UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Somaliland, Ambassador Abdullah Alnaqbi and Mr. Dritan, the UAE Head of Mission at Berbera Airport, both commended the significant contribution made to the Berbera airport, and made it clear that their government was committed to making the airport more competitive with the rest of the world.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, who concluded the event with a wide-ranging speech, thanked the United Arab Emirates, and that the people of Somaliland are grateful to them for their courageous investment in Somaliland.

“Today we are at one of the world’s largest Airports funded by our brothers in the United Arab Emirates, and we need to be prepared for the whole world to come here, and since it is the largest airport we need to attract the rest of the world. ” said President Bihi.

Somaliland currently uses the heavily favored and most convenient airport in the capital Hargeisa, Egal Airport.
