MOGADISHU (SD) -Al-Shabaab militants reportedly attacked Somali National Army and the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) bases in the Lower Shabelle region yesterday.
One of the attacks targeted Somali government forces and ATMIS troops in the area of Daanow, leading to intense fighting.
Additionally, a second attack occurred in the Janaale area, where Al-Shabaab militants ambushed a convoy of government troops, resulting in a fierce battle between the two sides.
Military officials from Somalia told the media, that they successfully defended against the attacks by Al-Shabaab and are currently present in the area.
Al-Shabaab, in a statement following these attacks, claimed to have inflicted casualties on the government forces and ATMIS troops.
According to the government forces, casualties were reported among the attackers, and they are currently engaged in securing the affected areas.
The Lower Shabelle region continues to be an Al Shabab stronghold, frequently attacking Somali and ATMIS troops causing casualties and unrest in the area.
